Vehicle Power Gains

Find out how much extra power and torque your vehicle can gain with a professional ECU remap from Real Torque Performance.

What Gains Can You Expect?

Manufacturers deliberately leave power and torque on the table. They programme every ECU with conservative settings to cope with poor fuel, extreme climates, and inconsistent servicing across global markets. A professional ECU remap from Real Torque Performance replaces those defaults with a calibration optimised for your vehicle — safely unlocking the performance your engine was already capable of.

The size of the gain depends mainly on your engine type. Turbocharged engines respond best, while the figures below show typical real-world Stage 1 results for some of the most popular cars and vans we remap across South Wales and the UK.

Typical Gains By Engine Type

Turbo Diesel

Turbo diesels see the biggest improvements from a remap, with the most noticeable change being a strong increase in low-down torque for effortless overtaking, towing, and motorway cruising.

Typical Stage 1: +20–35% power & torque

🔥

Turbo Petrol

Turbocharged petrol engines such as the Ford EcoBoost and VW/Audi TSI respond very well, delivering sharper throttle response and a meaningful jump in mid-range power.

Typical Stage 1: +10–20% power & torque

What Affects Your Power Gains?

No two vehicles gain exactly the same amount from a remap. The biggest factors are your engine type and whether it's turbocharged, but several other things influence the final figures:

Engine type — turbo diesels and turbo petrols gain the most
🔧 Mechanical condition — a healthy, well-serviced engine gains best
Fuel quality — higher-octane fuel can unlock cleaner gains on petrols
Supporting mods — intake, intercooler or exhaust upgrades enable Stage 2

Want to push further than Stage 1? With supporting hardware modifications, a Stage 2 remap can deliver 35–50%+ gains. We also offer DPF, EGR & AdBlue solutions for diesel vehicles.

How Are Gains Measured?

Power and torque gains are measured using a rolling road dynamometer (dyno). The vehicle is run on the dyno before and after the remap to produce accurate before-and-after figures. This ensures every gain is real, measurable, and verifiable — not estimated or guessed.

All remap files used by Real Torque Performance are developed using dyno data and tested extensively before being applied to customer vehicles. We use only proven calibrations that work within the safe mechanical limits of your engine. Learn more about our ECU remapping process.

Vehicle Power Gains FAQs

How much power will my car gain from a remap? +

It depends on your engine. As a guide, a Stage 1 remap on a turbo diesel typically adds 20–35% more power and torque, a turbocharged petrol around 10–20%, and a naturally aspirated petrol smaller but worthwhile gains in throttle response. Use the lookup tool above for an estimate tailored to your exact make, model, and engine.

Are the gains shown on this page guaranteed? +

The figures shown are typical real-world Stage 1 results and are a strong indication of what to expect, but every vehicle is different. Actual gains depend on your engine's condition, specification, fuel quality, and existing modifications. We confirm exact figures on the dyno before and after your remap.

Do diesels or petrols gain more from a remap? +

Turbocharged diesels usually see the largest percentage gains because they have the most untapped headroom in their factory maps, particularly in torque. Turbocharged petrols also respond very well. Naturally aspirated engines gain less power but still benefit from sharper throttle response and smoother delivery.

Will a remap increase torque as well as BHP? +

Yes. Torque gains are often the most noticeable improvement day to day, especially on diesels, giving stronger pulling power lower in the rev range for easier overtaking, towing, and motorway driving.

Can you remap vans and commercial vehicles for more power? +

Absolutely. Vans such as the Ford Transit, VW Transporter, and Mercedes Sprinter are among the most popular vehicles we remap. Owners typically want stronger low-end torque for towing and loaded driving, along with improved fuel economy.

Are the gains safe and reliable? +

Yes. Every remap we apply works within the safe mechanical limits of your engine and is fully reversible. Manufacturers build in a deliberate safety margin, and a professional remap simply makes better use of that headroom.
